The ABSOLUTE BEST CORNBREAD recipe!

>> Wednesday, April 1, 2009

If any of you remember the resteraunt Frontier Pie, this cornbread is even BETTER than theirs!! Once you make this recipe you will no longer be able to eat the prepackaged cornbreads any longer. Look no more, this will become your new favorite! I serve my cornbread with homemade honey butter (honey, butter, vanilla, 1 egg yolk). I also use 1/2 wheat flour and 1/2 white flour for this recipe and it is delicious!

Cornbread Cake
1 c. sugar
1 c. margarine
1 ½ c. flour
1 c. cornmeal
2 t. baking powder
2 t. salt
2 beaten eggs
1 ½ c. milk

Cream sugar and butter. Add rest of ingredients. Put in a greased 9x9 pan. Bake 350 for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Can be doubled and baked in 9 x 13 for approximately one hour.

I am not a big fan of cornbread, but this recipe is delicious! I doubled the recipe and made a 9x13 pan....I had to hand it out to the neighbors so I wouldn't eat it all!! It is great warmed with honey. Thanks for the recipe!

Is that a raw egg yolk in the honey butter? If it is, is that safe?

This is the best cornbread recipe ever. My husband was in love with Frontier Pies recipe until I tried this one many months ago. Now we make cornbread cupcakes with a honey buttercream frosting for dessert and put hotdog chunks in it for a corndog dinner. Thank you for sharing it with the world! :)

I am glad you like this recipe! It is one of our family's favorites, that's for sure. It is just like Frontier Pies, isn't it? So yummy! Thanks for your comment ;)

I just found your blog today and I am so excited to try some of your recipes. Have you ever substituted the sugar for honey?

Shandra October 2, 2012 at 8:05 AM

Amy, I have never tried using honey, but I am sure you could do half & half. This recipe is fairly sweet, so you if you are wanting to cut back the sugar for caloric reasons, you could definitely do that. Or, just experiment and use part honey and part sugar. Let me know how it turns out if you try it ;)

Thanks for your comment!

This is such a great recipe! Last time I made it my husband ate almost half of it with dinner. Will make it again soon. Thanks!

I'm new to your site,& this cornbread recipe caught my eye. Could I substitute corn FLOUR for the cornmeal, & if so, how much corn flour for the 1 c. cornmeal?

Thanks!

Shandra March 7, 2013 at 1:02 PM

That is a great question. I apologize I am not familiar with corn flour. However, I am sure it is very similar to corn meal, so I would try just substituting it straight across and see what the consistency is like. Let me know what you find. Thanks
