Olive Oil Favorites: Macaroni Grill Bread & Beach Street Lemon Linguine

There are many oils that you can store in your food storage, but my favorites would have to be butter and olive oil. Life is just plain better with butter and I will post several recipes this month with good ol' butter in them. For now though, to humor all of us who are trying to be a little healthier during the new year (haha!), I wanted to post two of my favorite recipes that call for olive oil. Everyone knows that olive oil is most likely the healthiest oil on the market (feel free to correct me if I am wrong). It doesn't store extremely long, about 1-1 1/2 years, but it sure tastes delicious! When ever possible I try to replace butter, margarine or cooking oils with extra virgin olive oil, because of the health benefits.

So, whether you are sauteing vegetables or making bread, olive oil is a must in your pantry and food storage!

I love to make all sorts of breads, but one of my all-time favorite breads to make is this recipe for Macaroni Grill’s Rosemary Bread. I don’t remember where we got this recipe from, or if it is really Macaroni Grill’s recipe, but either way, it is delicious!! The soft texture, crispy buttery crust and the hint of rosemary in this bread is absolutely delightful! This bread is the perfect compliment to any pasta dish, soup or salad. Not only is this bread delicious, but the fact that you roll the dough ball into a somewhat flat ball and bake, can’t make this recipe any more simple. Also, for those wanting to incorporate more whole grains into your diet, this recipes works great with half wheat flour and half white flour. I have never tried whole wheat flour, but I am sure that would taste great too!

Macaroni Grill Rosemary Bread

2 T. yeast

2 T. sugar

2 T. olive oil (or regular cooking oil)

2 c. hot water

6-7 c. flour (white, wheat or half & half)

2 T. rosemary

2 t. salt

Add yeast, sugar, water and 1 c. of the flour in a bowl. Let rise in bowl for 10 minutes. Add the salt, rosemary, olive oil and the rest of the flour until the dough ball is smooth and slightly sticky to the touch. Roll dough into two large round loaves, or four small. Place the round loaves of dough on a greased cookie sheet. Let the bread rise until they double in size (about 30-40 minutes). Bake at 400 for 15-20 minutes, or until top is golden brown. When out of the oven, melt butter over the top of the bread and then sprinkle with extra salt.

Okay..now for the PERFECT pasta dish to go with this amazing bread. Do you have those recipes that you love every time you make them, just as much as you did the first time. You won’t believe how delicious this pasta dish is. It is so different than any pasta dish I am sure you have tried. At first glance the soy sauce and lemon juice seems so out of place. However, they are the secret ingredient in this recipe that makes this recipe bar-none one of the best pastas you will ever have!

I posted about this recipe a couple of years ago and wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to see and try this recipe. OH YUM!! Happy eating to you!

YUM!! I just love your blog and all these recipes and knowledge you share.

By the way.......have you read or heard about cold pressed or virgin coconut oil?? It's amazing stuff to add to your oils in your storage. It's great for skin, hair AND most of all cooking. It has SOoo many health benefits. Thought you would want to know. Check it out! (And it stores for a long time too!!!!!)

Sounds so good. Do you use 2 T. of dried or fresh rosemary?

2 T. of dried rosemary is what I use. Also, duh...I forgot the olive oil in the dough. It is only 2 T. but makes the dough even more smooth and flavorful. I have fixed the recipe now. Thanks!!

I made the linguine and bread recipes tonight and they were both winners! That's a huge compliment, coming from a family that doesn't like being "experimented" on. We're having the gingerbread cake for dessert later, too. Your site is great--thank you!!!!

swallow's nest in an edible gel form is supposed be good for the skin too. it gives that clear and pasty skin that we all love.

it's mad expensive. my brother and i bought some for my mom for her birthday. it was like 400 bucks for like a 6-8 oz jar. Luckily we finally found the one of popular brand online (hongkong-bird-nest.50webs.com/index_e.htm and http://www.euyansang.com/)

dad said it's really popular in indonesia. that a guy has to climb a high mountain to get the nest. that's why it's so expensive.

i mean why doesn't the dude just look for the fabled korean swallow king, capture it and let it lay eggs full of gold! then, he wouldn't have to work so hard and climb them high mountains.
