A few weeks ago our family got together for an old fashioned game of kick soccer, homemade ice cream, homemade butter and delicious homemade wheat bread. All of the children had a great time watching our butter thicken and seeing the ice cream freeze. Of course, we ALL loved eating them!
Before summer ends make time for these fun activities with your children, they'll love it!
Homemade Ice Cream
1 pint half and half
1/3 cup granulated sugar
4 tablespoons of your favorite instant pudding mix
10 cups of ice
1 1/2 cups rock salt
1 #10 can with lid
1 mason jar with lid and cover
Mix the half and half, sugar and pudding mix in the mason jar. Seal the jar with cover and lid. Place in the middle of the #10 can and surround the jar by layering 5 cups ice, 3/4 cups salt, 5 cups ice and another 3/4 cups salt. Place the lid on the #10 can and roll the jar around for 20-30 minutes. Check the ice cream and continue rolling if necessary. Once it is frozen, eat immediately and freeze the remaining ice cream.
Homemade Butter
2 cups heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 mason jar with cover and lid
Place the cream and salt in a mason jar and seal with the cover and lid. Shake the mason jar for 20 minutes or more until the cream thickens. Place the remaining butter in the refrigerator to use later.
