This week's bargains & more case lot sales!

>> Wednesday, October 3, 2012

Our family recently ventured (along with the rest of the world it seemed) to Disneyland to try out the new Cars Land and Radiator Springs rides. Our annual pass is coming to an end, so we decided to make one last trip there to see all of the new sites. If any of you have been there you know how darling this new ride is. I can't say it's worth the 2 hour wait, but with a fast pass, it was totally fun! You feel like you have jumped into a cartoon--isn't Disney amazing?!? My 5 year old son's face was worth the effort and money it took to get there. If you have little boys who are obsessed with Lightning McQueen like mine are, you will love this new ride. Maybe give it another year to let the newness and crowds calm down, but you will love it!
Now that we are home and back to reality I was excited to start planning my meals again. You can only eat so many items off a dollar menu before you want some real food again. I came home and ran to Walmart lickety split because we didn't even have milk for cereal and bread for lunches. I didn't have time to print out my grocery list so I pulled it up on my phone. Some of you may have noticed that our website is going through some changes and a slight overhaul. We have several new & exciting features that we will be telling you about here in the near future, but one of them is that our website is now MUCH easier to access on your smart phones. I am not sure of all the technical mumbo-jumbo that was done to our site, but it sure makes pulling it up on your phone MUCH easier! Everything fits on one screen now and you can quickly and easily glance through all of the deals and recipes. It's not quite an app yet, but hopefully it will help your mobile needs work a little more smoothly ;)

So, here is my 'loot' I picked up this week for my 10 day meal plan. I am going to try and recreate a recipe I ate at The Cheesecake Factory in California, so stay tuned for that. It's the first time I've ever cooked with plantains. Wish me luck!

Grocery total $114.29!
Here's what I got:  8 lbs. boneless skinless chicken breasts, 2 lb. boneless pork chops, 1 1/2 lbs. boneless ham, 4 dozen eggs, 2 gallons of milk, 8 Hunt's ketchup, 4 lbs. butter, 8 greek yogurts, 10 lb. potatoes, 2 lbs. grapes, 3 onions, 2 lbs. carrots, 4 loaves of bread, 2 tortilla pkgs., green cabbage, 2 16oz. sour cream, 24 oz. cottage cheese, 16 oz. mushrooms, 1 watermelon, 1 bunch bananas, 1 pineapple, 1 bag red delicious apples, 1 bag gala apples, 9 cake mixes, celery, heavy whipping cream, green onions, cilantro, red onion, 2 Dole salad bags, 1 romaine lettuce, bag of tomatoes, 5 oranges, 2 french bread, plantains, limes, tortilla chips, 3 cream cheese, broccoli bunch, 4 red bell peppers, 2 green bell peppers, and 5 lbs. sweet potatoes.

CASE LOT SALES ARE NOT JUST FOR UTAH--WY, MT, WA, OR, ID & UT ALL HAVE GREAT DEALS THIS WEEK!!

Just an FYI, if you live near a Ridley's, Buy Low, Paul's, Broulims, Thriftway or Blair's NOW is the time to stock up your food storage. Each of these stores are having case lot sales and have GREAT deals on items you should have in your food storage (beans, tomatoes, vegetables, four, wheat, sugar, powdered/brown sugar, evaporated milk, powdered milk, pasta and much more). Stock up while prices are low so you can save money throughout the rest of the year when these items are not on sale. Remember, having a food storage also helps you combat inflated food prices. In today's economy, it is a smart idea to have food on hand that you bought at low prices in case food prices continue to sky rocket like they have in the past 5 years. Login to our website to find out what deals are on sale in your area.

Hey How does it work price matching meat at Walmart- I've always wondered - does it have to be the same brand or what are the rules for price matching meat?

Christianne,

They are usually pretty good about price matching meat. If it's ground beef, just make sure you match the same percentage of fat that is on sale. For pork or beef, just make sure it is the same cut of meat (sirloin, center cut, rump, etc.). Boneless skinless chicken breast needs to be the Walmart chicken that you can price match, not name brand chicken like Tyson. Other than that, you shouldn't have any problems. Just make sure and watch the prices carefully that they don't make any mistakes when changing the prices. For some reason they seem to make a lot of mistakes with the meat purchases.

Good luck!

Dinengdeng--thanks for your comment. We did have a good time ;)
